SIMPSON Men’s Shed helped mark a special milestone recently with the help of some of the youngest members of the community.
Simpson Community Centre Co-ordinator Debra Smith said National Men’s Week was held from September 3 to 9 and this year also marked 30 years since the first men’s shed opened in Australia.
“To celebrate, the Simpson shed has a community day and Jo Connell from Bunnings in Colac came out and brought soil, seedlings, gloves, aprons and hi vis vests,” she said.
“The Simpson Kindergarten kids planted the seedlings in the shed garden with the members of the shed assisting.
“After their hard work in the garden they all went into the shed and enjoyed a sausage sizzle lunch, ice cream birthday cake and cupcakes.”
Mrs Smith said a number of other community groups were invited to attend the celebration as well.
“The day was thoroughly enjoyed by the shed members and the children,” she said.
“The Australian Men’s Shed Association were kind enough to provide a party park which funded the lunch and included a birthday banner and some other goodies.”
