Simpson Speedway off to a flying start
FORMULA 500 driver Tim Rankin continued his hot form this season with a win at last weekend’s season opener for the Heytesbury Stockfeeds Simpson Speedway.
Action returned to the track at Simpson on Saturday night, with Rankin – coming off an earlier win at Premier Speedway in the Jack Wilsher Cup – once again showing speed and class on the track to take the chequered flag.
Rankin led the field home in the A Main, closely followed by Australia 1 Dylan Willsher with Dylan Beveridge in third.
In the junior formula 500s, talented local Rusty Ponting finished the night a close second to Aston Rodrigues, with Koby O'Shannassy finishing third in the entertaining 15-lap final.
Fan favourite class, the Super Rods, didn’t disappoint the large crowd on the weekend, once again putting on some great racing throughout the night.
Michael Coad took the chequered flag in the final, just ahead of Daniel Grist with Paul Verhoeven close behind in third.
The Victorian Wingless Sprints contested round two of the Super Series, with Travis Millar taking the honours in the 30-lap final, closely followed by Mitchell Broome and third-placed Blake Walsh.
Action will return to the Simpson track on Wednesday December 27 with the SRA sprint cars, formula 500s and junior formula 500s.
