Singer-songwriter and C’down expat comes home
AWARD-WINNING singer songwriter and Camperdown expat Simone Keane is returning to her roots to perform at Lake Edge Café, for one night only, to launch her latest album.
Her new album ‘Graced by Leaves’ is currently receiving generous radio play on country, folk, blues radio stations across Australia, the USA and the UK.
The album made its ARIA chart debut at number six for Best Selling Australian Country Album in its second week of release.
Ms Keane has now released five albums and has supported some big-name performers including Ian Moss and Ash Grunwald, but will return to Lake’s Edge Café next month for a homecoming performance with her brother, Mick.
The Keane family arrived in Camperdown in the 1970s. Ms Keane attended kindergarten, primary school and high school in Camperdown before heading off to university in Geelong.
She would eventually move to Albany, Western Australia, where she currently resides.
One of her new songs, Those Beautiful Times, is inspired by Ms Keane’s memories of climbing up Mount Leura, wearing a shirt made by her mother.
“Beautiful hand-crafted clothing which my sister and I wore, often matching dresses and shirts in different colours,” she said.
“In the song, I also sing about having fun on a swing set with my sister in our back yard singing nursery rhymes.
“We’d make up the funniest tunes and laugh our heads off. I’d love to laugh like that again.”
Coming from a musical family, Ms Keane said she is excited to be able to play in her home town with her brother.
She still vividly remembers playing and dancing to her parents’ vinyl records, which included artists such as Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles and Olivia Newton-John, and pretending to be performing to an audience.
“It’s amazing how my childhood dreams in Camperdown became a reality,” she said.
“It all started here in Lakes and Crater country.
“I realise how magical and special that is now which is why I wanted to do a show here – by a lake of course.”
Simone Keane and Mick Keane will perform at Lake Edge Café on Friday, January 12 from 6.30-9.30pm
