CAMPERDOWN footballer Hamish Sinnott is hoping one of the AFL’s club takes a punt on him as the 2021 National Draft gets underway tonight.

The 17 year-old is one of many potential draftees hoping to achieve their dreams of being drafted, with the first pick set to be announced at 7pm.

The first round of picks will be selected this evening, before the national draft resumes at 7pm on Thursday night.

The Rookie Draft will then be staged on Friday at 3pm, with overlooked prospects hoping their last chance to get drafted this year eventuates.

Sinnott, who represented the Greater Western Victoria Rebels, Vic Country and the Magpies this season, said the nerves had set in this week as the prospect of finding a new home becomes a reality.

“I’m pretty nervous,” he said.

“I’m probably more alright today because I’m not expecting much tonight but I’m still pretty nervous for Thursday.

“I’m probably a slim chance – there’s a couple of ways (I might get picked up) which (my manager) Scotty (Lucas) told me the other day but I’m just going to have to wait and see.

“All I want to do is get drafted, I don’t care to which club, I just hope someone really wants me.”

Sinnott produced a strong two kilometre time trial effort at the testing component of the draft combine and is hopeful a club will pick him up as a developing midfielder or defender.

While he has been on a modified program since the combine was conducted, he is confident he can make every step counts if he was picked up this week.

“Considering we had exams pretty much straight after testing, we haven’t been doing too much,” Sinnott said.

“We had a training session in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago which was good and other than that I’ve just been doing my own program, that’s about it.

“If my name was to be read out, it would take a bit to get used to the training but I would give it my best shot getting in there and getting it done.”

Tonight’s draft will see picks one to 18 announced before clubs return for rounds two, three, four, five, six and seven (picks 19-91) on Thursday.

Friday’s Rookie Draft is expected to see a small number of players rookie-listed.
