COBDEN Country Fire Authority (CFA) volunteers were among hundreds from across the state to compete in the Volunteer Fire Brigades Victoria (VFBV) State Urban Championships recently.
More than 50 teams from regional Victoria and outer metropolitan areas entered the competition with events designed to replicate firefighting skills.
VFBV chief executive officer Andrew Ford said the championships were much more than just a competition.
“They are a great way to develop practical and leadership skills and promote teamwork,” he said.
“The events showcase the fitness, skills, agility and commitment of our volunteers.”
About 500 competitors took part in the event, which saw Cobden take out third place in Event 15, Section – Disabled Hose and Reel Sixes with a time of 34.31 seconds.
Cobden team members were Paul Pekin, Luke Pekin, Jacob Pekin, Sam Uland, Angus Pekin, Ben Nelson, Andrew Marshell, Mark Roberts, Abby Clarke, Mathew Cameron, Dean Bourke and captain Bill Nelson.
The Cobden brigade was the only one in District 6 to send a team to the championships.
