Speaking up on budget needs
SIXTEEN township groups from across Moyne Shire came together in Mortlake earlier this month to make bids to include their capital works projects in the council’s next budget.
SIXTEEN township groups from across Moyne Shire came together in Mortlake earlier this month to make bids to include their capital works projects in the council’s next budget.
The Community Capital Works Presentation evening enabled groups to present their ideas directly to councillors and council officers.
It was also an opportunity for groups to see and hear what projects other townships were undertaking.
Moyne Shire mayor Mick Wolfe said feedback from community groups showed the event was a great success.
“Groups tell us that preparing for the evening helps them understand what is required when submitting a project that is considered ‘project ready’ as well as informing council and community of future ideas and possibilities for their town,” he said.
“We believe this approach to our budget is an important step toward living our commitment to work in partnership with the community. It also helps us prioritise our work and efforts to shape the future of our communities.”
The event also included guest speakers from the Koroit Bowls Club and the Warrnambool Model Aircraft Club who provided their tips on successful project planning.
“Moyne Shire Council is a community services provider, and by engaging with our community while we prepare our budget gives us the confidence that our capital works program is responding proactively to the community’s highest priorities,” Cr Wolfe said.
