ART lovers will be able to peruse a veritable treasure trove of art work at the 44th Camperdown and District Hospital Auxiliary Art Exhibition.

Normally held in spring each year, organisers were forced to cancel the last two years due to COVID, making this year all the more exciting for the auxiliary.

Auxiliary member Ian Currell said he is looking forward to the exhibition – dubbed A Spring Catalogue (In Autumn) - which is a major fundraiser for the group.

He said all funds raised goes directly to supporting the Camperdown hospital.

“It’s going to be our 44th art show, which was running uninterrupted before COVID,” Mr Currell said.

“We did try hard as a community group to do this show when it was supposed to happen in spring last year.

“It will be really good to get people back out doing a community fundraiser.”

In the last few months, the auxiliary has spent almost $20,000 at the hospital.

“We need people to support the art exhibition this year because we’ve committed to spending a lot of money up at the hospital,” MrCurrell said.

“Recently we’ve purchased equipment and fittings to upgrade the maternity ward and purchased five reclining chairs.

“We’re also going to purchase a $44,000 CTG foetal monitor.

“We need people to come along to the Friday night exhibition opening and support the event and purchase reasonably priced artwork.”

The art on display, which locals will also have the chance to purchase, are being supplied by three different art dealers:

• David Bradshaw;

• Andrew Miller; and

• Doug Kane.

Mr Currell said the art on display will include a variety of renowned artists such as:

• Janice McBride;

• Charles Blackman;

• David Newbury;

• Yvonne Cohen; and

• John Coburn.

Mr Currell said there will be 50 pieces of art on display.

“There is also some pottery and ceramic works,” he said.

“There will be some Indigenous art as well as East Timorese art on display.”

Art dealer Doug Kane will be officially opening the art exhibition and giving attendees a run-down on some of the nuances of the art world, as well as what they can expect to see at the show.

Rachel Lee, Acting Camperdown campus manager Rachel Lee commended the auxiliary on its efforts.

“SWH would like to thank the Camperdown Hospital Auxiliary for their generous donation of funds to refurbish the Camperdown Hospital maternity ward and purchase a Cardiotocograph (CTG) machine to monitor fetal wellbeing in antenatal clinics and during labour,” she said.

“To be able to give birth close to home is incredibly important for the local community and SWH are always striving to ensure that our maternity spaces are welcoming and positive and equipped with the latest technology to ensure a safe entry into the world."

“Having the financial support of the Hospital Auxiliary to help us make these upgrades is invaluable.”

Tickets for the opening night are $50 per person and include food and drinks.

The exhibition opening night will be held in the Church Street on Friday, May 6 at 6.30pm.

Locals and visitors alike will also be able to view the art at their leisure across the weekend, with the exhibition open between 10am and 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday.
