CAMPERDOWN’S Rotary Club will be supporting the End Trachoma program, with 34,000 stamps collected to be sent off.

CAMPERDOWN’S Rotary Club will be supporting the End Trachoma program, with 34,000 stamps collected to be sent off.
The stamps were collected at the Rotary District Conference in Ballarat recently by End Trachoma district representative Graeme Fischer.
Mr Fischer said the collected stamps are auctioned off on the international market by an auctioneer in Melbourne, with the money raised going towards the Western Australia branch of the program for specialized trailers.
“Albany Men’s Shed also makes trailers, but we have to provide the materials for the trailers,” he said.
“The Men’s Shed builds them free of charge.
“There’s five of these trailers to be in Western Australia; they do eventually want a spare, making it six trailers.”
Mr Fischer said the trailers travel through the Goldfields and are equipped with various hygiene and maintenance products.
“There’s a washing machine, dryer, soap, hand towels, face washers, and other items such as toothpaste in one section,” he said.
“In the other section, there are washers for taps, mirrors for bathrooms, globes, and other basic maintenance things.
“The latest figures for the previous 12 months, from December 2021 to December 2022, show that, because of the hygiene bags we’ve delivered, trachoma has dropped from 18.7 per cent to 3.8 per cent.”
While the stamps are being sent off, residents are encouraged to continue donating stamps to Camperdown’s Rotary Club.
