State title for Heytesbury men

LAST weekend’s triples state titles at Sunshine saw South West Victoria dominate.

LAST weekend’s triples state titles at Sunshine saw South West Victoria dominate.

Warrnambool won the women’s title while Heytesbury won the men’s.

Congratulations to the mens’ triples champions Scott Pierce, Gary Body and Allen Armistead and to the women’s champions Anne Draffen, Barb Draffen and Jacinta Marney.

The HIBBA mens’ and womens’ Champion of Champions were David Childs and Pam Wines while the runners-up were Joyce Lindquist and Brett Mungean.

In division one last week, Scotts Creek 1 defeated Laang-Ecklin 28-10 and Glenormiston 1 defeated Cobden 1, 18-15.

The third match saw Timboon Lawn 1 defeat Camperdown 1, 18-17 while Timboon Lawn 2 defeated Camperdown 2, 19-13.

The division one semi-finals next week will see Scotts Creek play Timboon Lawn 2 and Timboon Lawn 1 take on Laang-Eclin.

This week’s division two bye was Mepunga 1.

Simpson 2 defeated Glenormiston 2, 24-22, Simpson 1 lost to Timboon Lawn 4, 10-26 and Timboon Lawn 3 lost to Mepunga 2, 26-5.

The division two semi-finals next week will see Mepunga 2 play Mepunga 1 and Simpson 2 take on Glenormiston 2.

In division three, Cobden 2 defeated Scotts Creek 3, 24-9 while Timboon Lawn 5 defeated Scotts Creek 3, 18-9 and Glenormiston 3 defeated Peterborough, 24-12.

The division three semi-finals will see Glenormiston 3 take on Cobden 2 and Scotts Creek 3 will play Timboon Lawn 5.

The semi-finals will be played at Timboon Sports Stadium and start at 7.45pm roll-up for 8pm start on Wednesday, July 26.

The preliminary finals will be this Friday, July 28 and the grand final on Wednesday, August 2,

Tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided.

The HIBBA Champion of Champions was held last Friday night.

Joyce Lindquist (Scotts Creek) lost to Pam Wines (Laang-Ecklin) in the women’s event while David Childs (Cobden) defeated Brett Mungean (Timboon Lawn) in the men’s title.

Pam and David will now face off against other association Champion of Champions at the VIBBA Champion of Champions Championship on Sunday, August 6.

Next on the HIBBA events calendar is the pairs and fours championships and pictures of cards are to be submitted to the association secretary by the end of July.
