State titles for HIBBA players

LAST week’s state titles saw plenty of action for members of the Heytesbury Indoor Bias Bowls Assocation.

The first weekend of VIBBA events, which were hosted at Warrnambool, proved fruitful for Heytesbury players.

In the ladies’ pairs event, Pam Wines and Lara Mungean, Harmony Rasmussen and Bec Heard, and Pam Dwyer and Jean Clover played well but unfortunately their campaigns all ended on Saturday.

In the mens’ pairs, Noah and honorary Heytesbury player Jim Bullow also had their campaigns cut short on Saturday.

For the remaining pairs, Brett Mungean and Brendan Keane from Warrnambool came across Scott Pierce and Justin Rasmussen in the semi-finals.

Scott and Justin were successful in booking themselves a spot in the grand final against the Warrnambool team of George Draffen and Rob McRabb.

After the score levelled at 14-all on the last end, Scott and Justin won the event to be crowned the 2024 VIBBA Mens’ Pairs champions.

On Sunday, Pam Wines and Jodie Jones (eastern suburbs), Kathryn Wines and Lara Mungean, along with the mens’ fours side of Brett, Noah and Jason Mungean and Jim Bullow (eastern suburbs) had their campaigns cut short.

Pam Dwyer also filled in for a side missing a player.

She played with Bev Hutchins, Dawn Carey and Sue Cleeland in the ladies fours and the team was crowned the 2024 VIBBA Ladies Fours Champions.

Also on Sunday, Harmony Rasmussen played in the 2024 VIBBA Girls Junior Singles Championships and was runner-up to Emma Jackson.

In round six pennant action, division one saw Timboon Lawn 1 and 2 take care of Laang-Ecklin and Glenormiston 1 respectively.

In other matches, Scotts Creek narrowly defeated Camperdown 1 and Mepunga 1 defeated Camperdown 2.

The top four this week in division oneare Mepunga 1, Timboon Lawn 1, Camperdown 2 and Timboon Lawn 2.

Division 2 saw Simpson get its first win of the season at the expense of Glenormiston 3, Cobden 1 defeated Glenormiston 2, Cobden 2 defeated Timboon Lawn 4 and Mepunga 2 took care of Timboon Lawn 3.

The top four for division two this week are Cobden 1, Mepunga 2, Timboon Lawn 4 and Glenormiston 2.

In division three, Peterborough had the bye, Scotts Creek 3 lost to Cobden 3, Camperdown 3 lost to Mepunga 3 and Glenormiston 4 took care of Scotts Creek 2.

The top four in division three are Mepunga 3, Scotts Creek 3, Cobden 3 and Glenormiston 4.

Just a few reminders regarding pennant - score cards are required to be sent in immediately after the match and no later than the Thursday after.
