CAMPERDOWN College student Stella Horspole has added to her growing list of riding accolades, bringing home two awards from the recent Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships.
CAMPERDOWN College student Stella Horspole has added to her growing list of riding accolades, bringing home two awards from the recent Australian Interschool Equestrian Championships.
The championships, held at Werribee Park last weekend, proved a successful one for the year 10 student.
Horspole came home a Victorian team national champion and an individual runner-up national senior show horse champion.
She has not been able to compete at the school-age tournament since she was in primary school, having been interrupted by COVID lockdowns and a last-minute withdrawal in 2022 when her horse fell ill.
Competing in the senior show horse category on Saturday, Horspole and her horse George ‘Argyl Fine Art’ completed three phases – ridden, rider and led – and scored a total of 298 marks out of a
possible 310, just four marks short of the eventual winner (from Western Australia).
While Horspole and her family celebrated her individual achievement, it was the announcement of Victoria as National Team Champions on Tuesday that meant the most.
“I was very happy with my individual achievement but all the individual achievements put points towards the team and that’s how we won, which was a big effort from everyone,” she said.
Horspole was also kept busy throughout the week in her role as show team captain.
She was responsible for organising and supporting her team-mates of all ages.
“I was supporting my team and helping out if they needed me. I also went down (to the arena) early and watched the little kids compete.”
