Storer takes Merrett Family trophy
DANIEL Storer claimed the annual Merrett Family Trophy for wingless sprints at Simpson Speedway on Saturday night after snatching an early lead and holding it throughout a thrilling 25-lap A-main.

The Portland driver jumped ahead of Matthew Symons of Simpson, who had claimed pole position after winning both his heats, and once in front Storer didn’t relinquish his advantage for a second.
Warrnambool’s Harry Ross came in second a nose ahead of Todd Hobson in third, while hot favourite Chris Temby of Narre Warren South climbed from a starting position of 16th to finish in fifth, only a second and a half behind Storer.
“I’m happy with the way it all went,” said Storer.
“My car felt pretty good and overall it’s been a good night.”
The second round of the Sprintcar Racing Association of Victoria’s 360 Sprintcar Triple Crown Series also doubled as the fifth round of the C&H Trucking Limited Series, attracting 34 cars to the event.
Werribee’s Charles Hunter took the event after earning pole position ahead of Todd Hobson and Brett Smith, with veteran Matthew Reed managing fourth after qualifying in 16th position.
Ricky Cornwall battled his was through the Street Stocks event to win ahead of Colac’s David Barrie in second and Warrnambool’s Steven Watts in third.
Simpson Speedway’s final race meeting of the season will be held on Sunday, April 24, with the twilight event featuring a round of the C&H Trucking sprintcars, super rods and speedcars.
Gates open at 1pm with racing from 3pm.
