Storm creates rainy result
A HEAVY storm at the start of April has contributed to above average monthly rain falling throughout Terang and Mortlake.
In Terang there was 72.2mm of rainfall recorded throughout the month, rising above the long-term average for April of 63.3mm.
The highest daily rainfall occurred on April 2 when a whopping 35.4mm of rain fell, with the vast majority of the day’s tally falling in just a 20-minute period in a storm which brought down trees, scattered debris and led to minor flash flooding.
Despite the high rainfall, the final monthly tally was still well down on the previous year with 91.2mm of rain hitting the ground in April 2023.
The rainfall tally throughout the first four months of the year has reached 157.6mm, down on the 188mm long-term average over the same period.
Meanwhile in Mortlake, the results were similar as 63.4mm of rainfall was recorded during April – well above the 44.7mm long-term monthly average.
The highest daily rainfall also occurred in the 24 hours over April 2, with 31.2mm recorded as Mortlake also bore the brunt of the storm.
The overall figure remained below the 2023 April result, when 70mm of rain was recorded to have hit the ground.
Throughout the first four months of the year Mortlake has experienced 125.8mm of rainfall, below the 144mm long-term average result over the same period.
