Storm rolls in to take two flags

HEYTESBURY Storm has made a big impression on the South West Cricket competition this season, taking home premiership flags in both division two and three.

Last weekend was a special one for Storm, with both its division three sides (Blue and Purple) playing against each other, while in division two Storm put in a huge effort to defeat top-of-the-table Cobden.

The division two grand final, held at the Cobden Recreation Reserve last Saturday, saw Storm win the toss and elect to bat first.

Opener Ryan Jones put in a huge day at the crease, finishing unbeaten on 51, while team-mates John Nieuwenhuizen (27), Jack Finn (15), Nico Nieuwenhuizen (15) and Samuel Newey (14) were others to reach double figures.

Storm finished their 40 overs at 7/162.

In reply the home side was contained to 10/135 in the 37th over, with Michael Pegg the leading run scorer for the Knights with 59 from 91 deliveries (which included five boundaries and a six).

Best of the bowlers for the Storm were Jack Finn 3/25, Brad Hallyburton 2/17 and Nathan Gillingham 2/28.

Other wickets fell for Scott Thompson 1/19, Ashley Price 1/214 and Ryan Jones 1/21.

Man of the Match was awarded to the Storm’s Jack Finn who made 15 runs and took 3/25.

In the division three grand final it was an all-Storm affair, with Storm Blue finishing the home and away season on top of the ladder and Storm Purple second.

Timboon Recreation Reserve was a sea of purple and blue on Saturday.

Purple won the toss and elected to bat, reaching 7/170 after 40 overs.

Bailey Delaney top scored with 47 from 54 deliveries (including six boundaries) and was well supported on the scoreboard by Matthew Whitehead with an unbeaten 38.

Best of the bowlers for Storm Blue were Cody Noonan who took 3/40 from eight overs and Nathan Balcombe 2.32 from eight.

In reply, Storm Blue surpassed the required runs by the 37th over to clinch the premiership – finishing the day on 4/172.

Opener Terry Webb led the runs with 39 off 51 deliveries (including eight boundaries), while Cody Noonan contributed 32 and Brad Armistead was unbeaten on 22.

Best of the bowlers for Storm Purple was Jalen Berry who took 2/26 from eight overs.

Man of the Match was awarded to Cody Noonan (Blue) who impressed with both bat and ball, scoring 32 for the premiers and took 3/40.
