EMERGENCY services were quick to respond to a gas leak last Wednesday in Cobden.

Workers doing concrete works near the Cobden Kindergarten accidently struck a gas line.

Cobden sergeant Craig Jenkins said police helped evacuate the Cobden Kindergarten as well as cordoning off the section of street.

“Some workers were doing some concreting out the front and have nicked the gas line and they have notified emergency services,” he said.

“Thirteen pupils and four staff were evacuated from the kindergarten and relocated to the Cobden Primary School.”

Sgt Jenkins said once the scene was contained and hoses connected in case of a fire, it was a matter of waiting for the gas company.

“The road was closed while I’ve rehabilitated the scene,” he said.

The gas was shut off and line repaired later that afternoon.
