Strong start from Bloods
TERANG Mortlake got within 17 points of reigning premiers South Warrnambool last weekend.
The Roosters, once again expected to be a powerhouse in the Hampden Football League, were jumped by the Bloods from the first bounce, with the home side opening its account with three straight goals in the first quarter while the Roosters were contained to 2.4.
The second quarter saw the visitors step up their on-ball pressure to go into the main break with a one-point lead.
This lead was extended to 11 points by three-quarter time and a close final term saw the final scores at Terang Mortlake 9.8.62 to South Warrnambool 11.13.79.
Best for the Bloods were Ryley Hutchins, Kane Johnstone, Samuel Crawley, Jarryd Hay, Xavier Vickers and Ben Reid.
Hutchins kicked five goals for the home side, while Johnstone kicked two and Darcy Hutchins and Ben Reid contributed one each.
South Warrnambool celebrated a 65-point win over the Bloods in the reserves, 14.8.92 to 4.3.27.
Best for the Bloods were Jake Lee, Matthew Baxter, Tyler Vickers, Tom Arundell, Adam Williams and Tyson Densley.

Round three of Hampden League matches this Saturday will see the Bloods travel to Hanlon Park to take on Portland.
In other matches, Hamilton will host South Warrnambool, Camperdown will be home to Koroit, North will host Port Fairy and the Bombers will be home to Warrnambool.
