Students celebrate the end of another year
STUDENTS across the region were all smiles for their final week of education in 2023.
For some it marked their final week in a classroom and for others it marked the end of their first year, but for each it was an integral step in their development as they traverse their path to adulthood.
St Thomas’ Primary School principal Matthew Uzkuraitis said students had enjoyed a year which much more closely resembled normality than the previous, COVID-19 impacted years.
“It’s been a quick year, but each year always seems to go quick,” he said.
“It’s been great in the sort-of post-COVID era, where everything was back to normal this year.
“It was good for the kids, the staff and the families to have a bit of normality this year.”
Mortlake College assistant principal Anne De Manser said students had enjoyed a fun end to a “very positive year”.
“We had our Year 12 and Year 6 graduation on Tuesday, which was fabulous,” she said.
“All the kids are doing very well, we’ve got a fabulous, supportive school community and great staff which is very stable.
“At a time when so many schools are struggling to find teachers we’ve got a full quota of staff, with only one staffing change.
“It’s great for the kids to have continuity as we head in to another year.”
Students at St Colman’s Primary School enjoyed watching Christmas movies, listening to Christmas music, and building Christmas decorations to finish off the year.
“It’s a happy way to end what has been a very successful year at St Colman’s Primary School,” principal Janet Cain said.
“We had our most successful fundraiser earlier this year and a successful trivia night, so our little school community has managed to raise nearly $12,000.
“We’re enjoying being back to normal after three years of uncertainty.”
