Students create art work

A RAINBOW serpent has arrived at Timboon P-12 School.
Art teacher Sarah Mackieson said students helped colour in the outline of a rainbow serpent at the school with a variety of patterns and Australian animals.
She said the school had recently introduced Aboriginal studies as a subject for the first time.
“We are currently looking at dreamtime stories, in particular the creation dreamtime story involving the Rainbow Serpent,” Mrs Mackieson said.
“Bronwyn Bancroft is a leading Australian Aboriginal artist and illustrator who has illustrated many award winning books for children.
“We have also been reading her books in class and used her beautiful patterns and animals as inspiration for our collaborative art piece.”
Students completed the piece of art over a week which saw all primary school students working on it.
“It was a little bit of a race against the rain and some mornings part of its body would have been washed away and needed to be redone,” Mrs Mackieson said.
“It was delightful to see older students helping younger ones with their design and showing them how to make their animal pop by using certain colours and outlines.
“She appeared overnight on Sunday and listening to the excited little voices Monday morning as they saw her for the first time made it all worth it.
“I have a very supportive husband and two boys who spend two and a half hours with me and a bunch of chalk getting the body ready for Monday.”
