Students getting Job Ready
YEAR Nine and 10 students at Derrinallum P-12 College are now more work-ready thanks to a week of job incursions recently.

The students completed five certificates with Daniel from Short Courses Australia to prepare for the workforce.
Students completed courses for their white card, control traffic with stop-slow bat, provide first aid, communicate in the workplace, job search training and operate elevated work platforms.
The final course was a practical course, with students being able to try out a scissor lift on school grounds.
The incursion was part of Derrinallum P-12 College’s Future Pathways program, which gives students insight into a number of different industries and provides the students with skills and qualifications that may assist them in securing employment in the future.
Student Neave Thompson has said she really enjoyed the practical components.
“At times we were put into life or death situations, like getting out of the way of a moving vehicle after it had run a stop sign,” she said.
“It was very realistic and felt like it prepared me for what might actually happen.”
Student Dillon Gordon said the program was worthwhile for him.
“I am glad the school gave us the opportunity and more things like this would be handy for life after school,” he said.
“The trainer was very knowledgeable”
Student Harry Shady said the knowledge gained was well worth the time that was put into the learning and doing the practical tests.
