TERANG Noorat Arts in the Avenue Committee took to the stage during the Colour Terang Festival following a series of Sing Out Loud workshops for children, and a Pub Choir for adults.
Students from local schools, including Camperdown, Mortlake and Terang colleges, St Patrick’s in Camperdown and Emmanuel College in Warrnambool, attended workshops last week to hone their skills in the days leading up to performances at the festival.
The students had the opportunity to work with Victorian College of the Arts director of choral studies Dermot Tutty at the Rose Room at Terang Civic Hall.
The adult Pub Choir also enjoyed workshops each evening at the Commercial Hotel in Terang.
Sing Out Loud organiser Fiona Pugh said the workshops had been a rousing success with the return of Mr Tutty.
“It was wonderful to have Dermot Tutty return to Terang to take the workshops, after the very successful 2019 Sing Out Loud workshops,” she said.
“Dermot is one of the best choral educators in Australia and the students and adults loved his workshops.
“The workshops included vocal exercises, movement and singing.
“Each group learnt to sing with a beautiful pure tone, and with emotion, and their audiences were really moved by their performances.”
Workshop participants formed the Colour Terang Festival Choir and did two performances last Friday.
The first performance was in the recently revived Johnstone Court with its pink piano, and the second performance was at the Terang Civic Hall, with both performances drawing large and appreciative audiences.
“It was wonderful to have singing and so many other musical performances at the Colour Terang Festival this year,” Ms Pugh said.
“Singing and playing music are so good for us in so many ways, and it makes everyone feel good.”
