Students showcase their unique talents
THE extraordinary range of talent at St Thomas’ Primary School was on display at a special talent contest last week.
Students took part in this year’s St Thomas’ Got Talent contest, with 12 finalists taking part in the grand final last Wednesday.
Principal Matthew Uzkuraitis said he was proud to see the students united in both sharing their talents, and celebrating the talents of their peers.
“It’s great to showcase the different array of talents, from drawing to dancing,” he said.
“It’s been great to showcase the different abilities the kids have, and have a bit of light-heartedness as well.
“It was very hard to determine the winner.”
In the end, judges voted in favour of Patrick Tuckett as the overall winner, who was given a short period of time to draw something picked at random – a dinosaur, as drawn from a bucket by judges – before setting about the task of creating a wildly imaginative depiction.
Judge Marie Ewing praised all the students for their performances.
“I thought they were wonderful,” she said.
“It shows how much work they put in to it, their organisation and how much they loved doing it.
“The audience was transfixed.”
Art teacher Lisa Cavarsan, a driving force behind the talent contest, said students had worked diligently with limited time to prepare their performances.
“We started at the beginning of the term, with it up to the kids if they wanted to enter or not,” she said.
“They sorted out of their groups in class and had a little bit of time during art time to put it all together.
“I thought they were fantastic.
“I’m glad I wasn’t a judge because they were all very deserving of their grand final appearance.”
St Thomas’ Primary School art captain Frankie Rickard enjoyed a unique experience as she not only hosted the event, but was also a finalist.
“It was really fun hosting, and being part of a dance,” she said.
“It was really fun but it was also stressful.
“One of our people was away for the grand final so we had to teach another one of the girls the dance in one day, but overall it was really good.”
