FOR more than three decades Lions clubs around the world have been sponsoring a very special art contest in schools.
Creating peace posters gives students everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire others through art and creativity.
This year’s Camperdown Lions Club Peace Poster competition saw grades 5 and 6 students from Camperdown College’s junior campus and St. Patrick’s Primary School presenting entries.
The competition features a different theme each year, this year’s theme being ‘Lead with Compassion’.
To be eligible, entrants must be between 11 and 13 years old as at November 15.
All entries need to conform to strict competition rules which include paper size, use of any art medium but excluding 3D, anything attached or glued to the poster and no use of numbers or lettering.
Camperdown Lions Club Peace Poster co-ordinators Marilyn Bourke and Trish Taylor said choosing the winner from each school proved to be difficult this year, “due to the standard ofthe entries”.
The winner from Camperdown College was Isla Spokes, with runner-up Madilyn Neilson, and the St Patrick’s Primary School winner was Evie Mahoney, with runner-up Madi Fisher.
Isla and Evie were presented with certificates and a voucher from Camperdown Newsagency.
The successful entry can then progress through to state, national and international levels of the competition, with the world judging of the final 24 posters held in America.
