Success for club
COBDEN and District Orchid Club attended the 23rd Annual Victorian Orchid Club’s Challenge weekend held in Warrnambool recently.

Club president Denise Robertson congratulated all members who bought plants to show on the stand.
“We were delighted to receive 16 awards from our stand, a great success for a small club,” she said.
“Special mention to John Whitewood for his Champion Paphiopedilum Hybrid “Slipper Orchid”, also first placing for Stenoglottis Longifolia Species.
“John also received second place for a seedling cymbidium, plus two first placings for Paphiopedilums plus second and third place for Paphiopedilum Hybrids.”
Other notable successes for the club were: David Staggard - Best Orchid from Cobden other than a champion for a Zygopetalum as well as second place Zygopetalum.
Anita Evans - Champion Cymbidium as well as first Standard Cymbidium and first Phalaenopis.
Don and Betty Stevenson received third placings for Native Hybrid, Native Dendrobium and for a Masdevallia .
Mrs Robertson congratulated the club’s members.
“We had 14 members attend over the weekend - it was good to catch up with fellow Orchid growers,” she said.
“Horsham will host the Challenge in 2025.”
The Cobden and District Orchid Club will meet next on August 9 at the Cobden Civic Hall’s for the annual general meeting at 7pm, followed by a general meeting.
