Success for Funakoshi squad

MEMBERS of the Funakoshi Karate International Squad delivered a standout performance at the National All Styles Championship in Doncaster last weekend.

Jillian Cole emerged as the star of the day, achieving a club first and personal best with a remarkable victory in the mixed male and female veteran’s Kata category.

This new format, combining both genders in competition, saw Cole clinch top spot against a formidable field of competitors, showcasing her unparalleled skill and dedication.

Jillian’s success on the day included a first place in the veterans’ 51 years and over M/F kata, female advanced 5th Kyu to black belt continuous sparring and the veterans’ female over 40 years continuous sparring.

She also finished second in the female black belt open kata category, the female black belt open points sparring and the veterans’ female 40-50 years points sparring.

Mark Cole also performed well at the tournament, finishing third in both the male advanced kata 5th kyu to 1st kyu, and the veterans’ 51 years and over male points sparring.

Sophie Cole was recognised with the National All Styles Victoria Encouragement Award, highlighting her dedication to the sport.

The Funakoshi Karate International Squad’s performance underscores their commitment to excellence and sets a high standard in the martial arts community.

Their success at the National All Styles Championship is a testament to their hard work and skill, promising more thrilling competitions to come.
