Swayn leads Magpies for final round
CAMPERDOWN senior coach Neville Swayn will take the reins for the final time this weekend when the Magpies take on North Warrnambool at Leura Oval.
Swayn, who has held the top coaching position with the Magpies for the last six years – and a further half a dozen more as assistant coach – will call time on a successful and “rewarding” coaching career at Camperdown.
“It’s certainly been quite the journey but it’s time for a change and once the dust settles abit who knows what the future holds,” Swayn said.
“For now I’m just concentrating on this Saturday’s game against North Warrnambool and it would be icing on the cake not just for me but the entire playing group to get the win on our home ground.
“North Warrnambool is certainly (I believe) one of the best sides in the league at the moment so it will be a tough game but I have confidence we can get the job done and finish the season on a high.”
Last weekend’s round 17 clash with the Portland Tigers saw the Magpies bring home a well-earned 87 point victory, 20.19.139 to 8.4.52.
Angus Gordon was effective in front of goals, booting six majors for the day, while Fraser Lucas added four and Isaac Stephens three.
Ned Molan and Zach Sinnott kicked two goals each while Matthew Field, Eric Guthrie and Harry Sumner contributed one apiece.
Luke O’Neil, Angus Gordon, Eric Guthrie, Fraser Lucas, Riley Arnold and Zach Sinnott were named among the best.
In the reserves match earlier in the day, Portland was too strong for the Magpies, 8.15.63 to 3.3.21.
Simon Baker, Tim Fitzgerald and Jeremy Lucas kicked a goal each while Andrew Hargreaves, Jeremy Lucas, Luke Clarke, Will Kosch, Jake Muddle and Leigh Ball were named in the best.
In the under 18s, Camperdown (currently sitting fifth on the league ladder) hung on to defeat Portland by two points, 5.8.38 to 5.6.36.

Best for the side were Tom Baker, Aidan Conheady, Jacan Brooks, Darcy Vick, Brock Stephens and Wilba Cheeseman.
