Swim club future uncertain
THE future of the Terang Swimming Club remains in doubt.
THE future of the Terang Swimming Club remains in doubt.
The club is desperate to find volunteers to ensure its future, with an urgent meeting called for this Sunday.
Current committee member Lisa Chesshire said the club was now at “crisis point” and was desperately calling on volunteers to ensure the club could continue.
“I have been involved with the Terang Swimming Club for the last 15 years and I am going to try my best to avoid it going into recession,” she said.
“If it is forced into recess, who knows if or when it would ever get up and running again.”
While Ms Chesshire acknowledged people are busy and many may be reluctant to commit to a position on a committee, she said the club “more or less runs itself” but it does host an annual carnival in February.
In past years the carnival has always been a huge success, attracting large fields of swimmers from across the district and beyond, and is a great fundraiser for the club.
“We also engage other club members and district officials to help run the carnival on the day,” Ms Chesshire said.
“But we need parents and others to now put their hands up and get onboard as committee members. It’s not a difficult task but it’s one that needs to be done to ensure the club can survive.”
Last season the club attracted more than a dozen children who competed in the swim season, under the direction of coaches Maddison Chesshire and Tori Parson.
The swim season generally runs from November through to mid-March when the pool closes.
This Sunday’s meeting will be held at the Terang Fitness Centre from 7pm.
