TERANG College’s largest ever contingent of athletes attended the Greater Western Region Swimming Finals in Horsham last Friday, March 18, returning with an impressive array of results.

The eight secondary and three year five and six students competed in a total of 17 individual and two relay events.

Year 12 student Ingrid Cavarsan, competing in her last regional swimming event as a Terang College student, recorded wins in the 100m butterfly and 50m freestyle, backstroke and butterfly events, and came second in the 50m breaststroke.

The four wins mean she will now represent the college in those events at the SSV State Swimming Championships at the Melbourne Sport and Aquatic Centre in April.

Cavarsan was also part of the year 12 relay team, alongside teammates Chloe Anderson, Jess Beasley and Kara Gee, which finished second in the 4x50m freestyle and fifth in the 4x50m medley.

Cavarsan has competed at the state championships every year since 2015, with the exception of 2020 when the carnival was cancelled due to COVID-19.

Sharp sisters Lynley (year eight) and Jackenzie (year six), competing in their first regional swimming finals, swam in the 50m freestyle and backstroke multiclass events, each winning both events to also progress to the state championships.

The sisters’ fellow first time regional representatives Edward Delaney (year nine) and Chloe Clifford (year five) also outdid themselves, recording personal bests in their events, while Darcy Abbott (year

10), Ben Carlin (year nine) and Parker McDougall (year six) also recorded excellent times in multiple events.
