Tea Tree Lake restocked with rainbow trout
MORTLAKE’S Tea Tree Lake is the perfect spot for fishing over the last days of school holidays after 450 rainbow trout were released.
The release of fish is part of the Victorian Government’s efforts to ensure little anglers can get hooked on a new hobby during the winter school holidays, with more than 35,000 catchable-size rainbow trout being stocked into 80 lakes across the state.
The restocking has seen the Victorian Government reach a record-breaking stocking of 11.5 million this year – surpassing the previous record of 10 million.
Minister for Outdoor Recreation Steve Dimopoulos encouraged families to get out on the lakes and enjoy a day of fishing together.
“Our record-breaking fish stocking program means great recreational fishing for all Victorians and attracting more families and friends to every corner of Victoria to enjoy this great activity,” he said.
The rainbow trout stocked are advanced yearlings and are suitable to be caught immediately.
Rainbow trout are a good option for children or those trying fishing for the first time, because they are relatively easy to catch and take a variety of baits and lures.
This stocking program aims to encourage families to go fishing, particularly during school holidays.
Anglers are reminded a daily bag limit of five trout applies, of which only two can exceed 35 centimetres.
