Tehan named to shadow ministry
NEW Coalition leader Peter Dutton has named Member for Wannon Dan Tehan among the new-look Shadow Ministry.

NEW Coalition leader Peter Dutton has named Member for Wannon Dan Tehan among the new-look Shadow Ministry.
The change comes following Labor’s Federal Election victory last month, which saw Anthony Albanese emerge as Australian Prime Minister.
Mr Tehan had previously served as Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment under the Morrison Government, but the election loss saw incumbent Prime Minister Scott Morrison step down as Liberal Party leader.
Member for Dickson Peter Dutton was elected the Liberal leader late last month after an uncontested partyroom vote, and announced his shadow ministry over the weekend.
Mr Tehan took to social media network Twitter on Sunday to say he was “honoured” to be asked to serve as Shadow Minister for Immigration and Citizenship under the Dutton opposition.
“Immigration is an important policy area,” he said.
“I want to work with businesses across Australia so we can address the critical workforce shortages we currently face.
“This will be crucial to keeping our economy strong and for growing our businesses, both large and small, into the future.”
Mr Tehan said “the other priority would be the continued resettlement of displaced Ukrainians”.
“Our response to resettling Ukrainians following Russia’s illegal invasion has been unprecedented and must continue,” he said.
He acknowledged the new role would be a “challenge,” but said it was one he looked forward to undertaking.
“As an opposition, the way we engage with our multicultural communities will be critical to our future success,” he said.
“I want to congratulate all of my colleagues who have been asked to serve in the shadow ministry."
“The role of the opposition is to develop alternative policies and hold the government to account for its policy commitments."
“It is a job that is essential to the proper functioning of our democracy.”
