Tehan pays C’down a visit
MEMBER for Wannon Dan Tehan paid Camperdown a visit recently, hearing the concerns of residents as part of his regular listening posts.
He was stationed outside the Camperdown Post Office from 12.30pm to 1.30pm, with a number of residents stopping by to talk with Mr Tehan.
Mr Tehan said one of the biggest concerns raised with him on the day was cost-of-living.
“That is what everyone is raising with me – electricity, gas bills, insurance bills, cost of food – everything is just making life hard for people and that’s the big issue on everyone’s agenda at the moment,” he said.
“Some people have raised the roads, so the fact that the Victorian State Government have cut their maintenance budget for roads has got people very wild.
“They want to see more money going into the maintenance of the roads, not less.
“The third issue is that there’s a concern that’s been raised just around plastics and contamination.”
Residents also approached Mr Tehan to campaign for changes within the town on their behalf, including for the management of dangerous intersections.
Mr Tehan said he planned on doing more listening posts in the area in the future.
“It’s wonderful – it’s why I do listening posts right around the electorate because it’s the best way to engage with people and hear what the issues are and what their concerns are,” he said.
“It’s a great thing about Australia that, in our democracy, you can advertise, and people will come and see you, and you can talk face-to-face with them and you can do it safely.
“We’ll keep doing them, and I keep saying to people they can phone the office at anytime as well if they need to raise anything.
