Temporary outages to hit Camperdown this week
UPGRADES to Telstra’s mobile base station will cause a temporary outage to services in Camperdown this week.

UPGRADES to Telstra’s mobile base station will cause a temporary outage to services in Camperdown this week.
The upgrades include adding additional infrastructure to bring 5G and better 4G services to the community, but will impact mobile coverage and capacity while work on the mobile tower near the Botanic Gardens is under way.
Telstra has another mobile site at the Telstra exchange in Camperdown and this site will not be impacted by the works and could provide some overlapping coverage.
These improvements will temporarily impact Telstra 3G and 4G coverage from Monday, November 29 to Friday, December 2 with some service disruptions during this window.
“As this upgrade work needs to be carried out during daylight hours for health and safety reasons, our technicians will need to switch off some sectors which support mobile services in the area,” a Telstra spokesperson said.
“This will result in some disruption to mobile services in the area.
“Every effort will be made to reduce the impact to our customers, and we apologise for any inconvenience.
“Telstra mobile customers will receive text messages advising them of the upcoming work.”
Landline services, NBN internet services and mobile coverage from other providers will not be impacted.
Any calls to Triple Zero from a Telstra mobile when the site is off air will automatically be diverted to any working mobile network for connection to emergency services.
“We know that there is a never a good time for work like this to occur, however the service disruption is required to perform the significant work required to provide the new technology and speed and capacity to the Camperdown community,” the Telstra spokesperson said.
“While coverage and capacity will be impacted during this time, we want to keep the amount of time the site is off air to an absolute minimum, and give the community as much time as possible to plan for the disruption.
“Telstra knows that this area suffers from congestion on the mobile network which impacts speeds and user experience particularly in the peak tourist seasons.
“This upgrade will be the next step in helping improve network capacity before the busy summer season, which will mean better mobile services for local residents and visitors.”
For mobile coverage during outage periods, residents were encouraged to access to a Wi-Fi signal at home or at work and to activate Wi-Fi calling.
This is a free setting on most popular mobile phones and allows mobiles to use a Wi-Fi network to make and receive mobile calls.
“We know many businesses use the Telstra network for their point-of-sale terminals,” the spokesperson said.
“However, Telstra does not operate the EFTPOS network; it is operated by financial institutions.
“Many terminals can also be connected using fixed line or Wi-Fi/NBN internet connections if they are available within the retail premises.
“Retailers should contact their bank for more information on how to switch between these methods to ensure continuous service.”
