“I guess we can’t blame lack of lighting when we miss a ball now,” club secretary Donna Watts said.

“Last Monday night we officially turned the new lights on, which was exciting.

“At a cost of just over $40,000 it has certainly been a big project for the club because it was all self-funded.”

Forty-four new halogen lights now adorn six of the nine courts at the Camperdown venue, providing well-lit playing areas.

The venue hosts a ladies’ competition each Monday night, men’s on Tuesday nights and a mixed competition each Thursday night.

The current season will continue until just before Christmas, with the next season due to commence around February next year.

“Our night comps are also very social and we welcome new players of all abilities,” Ms Watts said.

“This lighting project has been a substantial undertaking for our club so we’re very excited.”
