ANZAC biscuits taste a little sweeter when every packet raises funds for the Terang Returned and Services League (RSL) sub-branch.

This week the Terang Co-Op Supa IGA donated $500 to the Terang RSL thanks to an initiative which sees a portion of each packet of freshly made Anzac biscuits sold during the Anzac period donated to the group.

Terang RSL secretary Pam Bell thanked the Co-Op for its support, saying the initiative was “brilliant”.

“This is the second year it has been run and we sincerely thank the Terang Co-Op because they are tremendous supporters of not only us, but the whole community,” she said.

“I think Kevin (Ford, Co-Op chief executive officer) can be very proud of his staff; there hasn’t been a time I’ve gone shopping and haven’t been greeted by a smile.

“Why would you shop anywhere else when we’ve got our Co-Op right here in Terang?”

Mr Ford said giving back was an integral ethos of the business.

“From an organisational perspective we see it as our responsibility to give back to the community,” he said.

“This, to me, is a great way of doing it.

“The community benefits by eating all our biscuits and it gives us the opportunity to then financially give back.

“It’s a win-win to be able to enjoy a biscuit with coffee or tea, particularly when it’s cold, knowing you’re helping to support a community organisation.”

Terang RSL president Terry Fidge thanked Co-Op staff for their ongoing support.

“On behalf of the Terang RSL and its members, to the Co-Op board and employees, we are so grateful for this donation,” he said.

“The Terang RSL is supported by the local community and the traders - and without them, we wouldn’t be where we are.

“We’re the envy of a lot of clubs and it’s with this kind of support we’re able to achieve what we do.”
