Last month Fabian’s Spirit won at Hamilton with jockey Harry Coffey.

Assistant trainer Harriet Place said we were really happy with the result; Fabian’s Spirit has had a total of seven wins.

“The 7-year-old gelding showed good form, but since then he has had a few issues, so we decided to place him back out in the paddock for a spell,” Place said.

Daffys’ other two wins has come from his six-year-old gelding Overkill, winning the first two races of its campaign.

Early in the month he won the 1100m Ace Radio Handicap at Hamilton with jockey Jack Hill, following up a fortnight ago winning the 1200m West Side Horsham Handicap at Horsham with jockey John Allen.

“This is the second prep for Overkill, the first prep he was not being competitive andhad a few little issues, so we decided to give him a few months off over winter,” Place said.

“Overkill has come back this prep and he is absolutely flying.

“With the weather, we couldn’t get on the grass track at Camperdown or for trials, so we decided to take him to Hamilton to race and he won really easily.

“So we went to Horsham with confidence that he should win.”

The two wins has qualified Overkill to race in Melbourne over the Spring Carnival at Flemington.

“We are looking at the last day at Flemington, he has qualified for the 1100m World Horse Racing Grand Handicap (Bm80) if everything keeps going the way it is,” Place said.

“We haven’t decided if he will have a run before then.

“We are very lucky with Harry and John as they are leading jockeys in the country and are both group one winning riders and Jack Hill also one of the leading jockeys around, it is really good that we have them on board, they can be hard to get sometimes.”
