AN EVEN team performance saw Woorndoo Mortlake recorded a convincing 188 point win last Saturday.

The Tigers dismantled Wickliffe-Lake Bolac at Woorndoo Recreation Reserve, extending its unbeaten start to eight games with a 32.19 (211) to 3.5 (23) triumph.

“It was a good win,” coach Damien Pemberton said.

“It was still one of those games where we were throwing blokes around a bit, especially with a couple coming back from injury.

“Everyone performed so it was good to give opportunities to blokes, particularly given we had a bit of a lead.

“We kicked a lot of points though, we probably got carried away when we got in our forward and just kept blazing away.”

Pemberton is pleased with the even performance across the board, adding it was making his job difficult to select his side’s best performers.

Matt Pemberton was named best on ground, but Damien Pemberton said another seven to eight players could easily have been his side’s best.

“Matty played another great game but each week it’s hard to select the best players,” he said.

“Everyone across the group is doing their bit so it’s hard because some people have been really good some weeks like Jesse Horan, especially last week.

“Will Paulin, who was in for his first game, was good, Grant Cameron was back from a niggle and he kicked five or six and give us a big target up forward.

“The Templeton boys all work hard too so sometimes its really hard to select the best.”

The Tigers are now enjoying a lighter week on the track ahead of this weekend’s league-wide bye.

“I’m pretty happy with the way we’re tracking so we had Tuesday night off and we’ll train tonight,” Pemberton said.

“We still expect the boys to be doing something, whether that’s on Saturday or Sunday they can do that at their leisure.

“I think we’re in a position where we don’t have to rock up and run the guts out of them on Saturday, if we weren’t winning it might be different but I don’t feel like we need to go down that road.

“I feel you need to reward the boys when it’s due.”

Meanwhile, the Tigers A grade netball side will enter the break undefeated following a 23 goal win over the Magpies.

Woorndoo Mortlake burst out of the blocks to open up a seven goal buffer at quarter time.

They continued to hold the ascendency throughout the final three terms, piling on 43 goals to 17 to record a 56-23 triumph.

Shooter Sarah Cameron’s accuracy in front of goal earned her best on court honours, with the multiple premiership player scoring 37 of the side’s 56 goals.

Midcourter Renae Reynolds also performed strongly in centre and goal defence and was also one of the Tigers best.

The Tigers will now enjoy a week’s break in second place on the ladder, with the side winning all eight games thus far.

Woorndoo Mortlake takes on Glenthompson Dunkeld when the Mininera and District league season resumes next Saturday, July 10.
