WOORNDOO Mortlake’sfinals series came to an end last weekend, with a 13-point loss to Ararat in the Mininera League preliminary final.
The Tigers found themselves just four points up at half-time but were unable to keep up with the Eagles on the scoreboard in the final two terms, going down 5.8.38 to 6.15.51.
Senior coach Tyson Hogan said it was a “disappointing end to the season” but paid full credit to the Ararat side who showed determination at the ball and were able to take advantages of their opportunitiesall over the ground.
“We just didn’t capatiliseon all the opportunities when they were there and to be honest we probably had a few blokes out on the ground who were abit under-done,” Hogan said.
“But there’s no excuses. We didn’t play our best footy and that’s disappointing in itself. We had a couple of injuries early in the game, with Scott Adinsall doing an ankle early on and Will Paulin with a hamstring which left us with just one on the bench.
“But I’m not making excuses. Hats off to Ararat, they were obviously better on the day and their entries into the forward line paid off.”
Best for the Tigers were Haydn Templeton, Tyson Hogan, Liam Meekes, Cam Howland, Keilan Webster-Bamford and Will Templeton.
Goals went to Sam Uwland (3), Grant Cameron and Matthew Pemberton.
