WOORNDOO Mortlake’s two football sides will head into week one of the Mininera League finals series this weekend.
With the seniors and reserves teams both finishing second on their respective ladders, the Tigers will contest qualifying finals at Tatyoon on Saturday.
Last weekend’s final round against Tatyoon, who only dropped one game for the season, was a great test for the seniors in their finals preparations.
In front of a home crowd at Woorndoo, the Tigers were held to just one goal four for the first half while the visitors piled on 7.6 before the main break.
The top side’s momentum continued into the third quarter where they added a further five majors while restricting the Tigers to just one behind.
The Tigers came home stronger in the final term, adding four goals six to the board while containing the visitors to two majors.
Final scores Tatyoon 14.7.91 to Woorndoo Mortlake 5.11.41.
Jordan Buckley, James Coghlan West, Tyson Osborne, Justin Snow and Will Templeton each kicked a goal while Tyler Fowler, Hans Petersson-Dunn, Jesse Johnson, Tyson Hogan, Matthew
Pemberton and Liam Cameron were named in the best.
The Tigers’ reserves finished their home and away season on a high, defeating the Hawks by 99-points, 18.9.117 to 2.6.18.
Grant Cameron booted seven goals for the Tigers while Tyler Seabrook contributed five and James Templeton kicked two.
Byron Loader, Wayne Loader, Brody Mifsud and Mitch Walsh also scored a goal each.
Listed in the best for the Tigers were Cameron, Seabrook, Bryce Meekes, Keilan Webster-Bamford, Mitch Walsh and Brody Mifsud.
In wet conditions, the Tigers’ A grade netballers worked hard for every ball against the minor premiers.
Final scores were Tatyoon defeated Woorndoo Mortlake 28-21. Best for the Tigers: Brooke Richardson.
B grade – Tatyoon defeated Woorndoo Mortlake 31-28. Best for the Tigers: Tasha Killen and Emma Shippen.
C grade – Tatyoon defeated Woorndoo Mortlake 22-17.
18 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Tatyoon 40-8.
15 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Tatyoon 28-23.
13 and under – Woorndoo Mortlake defeated Tatyoon
All six netball sides and both football teams have finished in the top five of their respective ladders and will contest finals from this weekend.
The Tigers’ 18 and under netballers finished the season undefeated and as minor premiers will have this weekend off.
