WITH just two rounds remaining, Simpson’s A grade netballers are holding on to fifth spot and facing a must-win game this Saturday.

Following last Saturday’s defeat at the hands of Otway Districts, the Tigers are on equal points but percentage ahead of Apollo Bay in sixth.

The Tigers will face third-placed Irrewaara-Beeac this weekend before a last round encounter with Lorne.

Last Saturday’s 37-39 goal defeat has put added pressure on the A grade side to win both remaining games.

“Like all clubs, we’re eager to play finals and we know that this weekend is a must-win for us,” senior coach Paige Salmon said.

“We were all shattered after Saturday’s loss but we know what we need to do to win the big games and we’re now focusing on this weekend.”

Last time the Tigers faced Irewaara-Beeac was back in round eight when they enjoyed a nine-goal victory.

Salmon knows this weekend will be a tough one and they will need to take their best to the game.

“Basically if we don’t win we’ll probably be out of the finals race so it’s an extremely important game,” she said.

Salmon praised the on-court efforts of defender Ash Arnold who got her hands on the ball and caused several turnovers last Saturday, and Hayey Pouw who provided drive in the centre during the second half.

Hayley Pouw, Kelly Thompson and Ashleigh Arnold were named best on court for the Tigers.

B grade enjoyed a 42-37 goal win over Districts, with Maddi Cunnington, Brittany Wright and Pippa Jones named best.

C grade also had a win, taking the points with a 13-goal victory, 34-21. Best for the Tigers were Georgia Arndell, Leah Graham and Anna Box.

And in D grade, the Tigers were defeated 19-25 with Megan Burbidge, Indiana Duynhoven and Hannah Zappelli named best.

In the junior games, the 15 and under team was defeated 19-47 (Esha Crole, Millicent Saunders and Ella Arndell best for the Tigers) while the 13 and unders had a 20-20 draw.

Lucy Jones, Ellie Balcombe and Keisha McVilly were named best on court.

Last Saturday was also a special day for Tigers Maddi Cunnington and Georgia Arndell.

Maddi played her 100th game for the club while Georgia notched up her 50th game.

“Both players are goalers, with Maddi playing in our B grade side and also qualifying for A grade, and Georgia in our C grade team,” Salmon said.

“It was a great milestone for them both and we congratulate them.”
