SIMPSON has taken out the division two Fonterra Cup Twenty20 competition for a second straight year following a decisive victory over Ecklin in Saturday’s grand final.

The Tigers went through its six pool matches undefeated and were never seriously challenged during last weekend’s two finals.

They defeated Heytesbury Rebels by 65 runs in the semi, before accounting for the Frogs by 80 runs in the decider.

Simpson belted its way to 8/216 from 20 overs, with a good spread of scorers throughout the innings.

James Gusman (48), Brad Salmon (46) in the middle order and opener Nick Harding (43) all kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Ecklin was never seriously in the hunt for victory, bowled out for 136 in the 19th over.

Salmon (2/23) backed up his batting performance with the ball, while Brett Good (2/30) snared a pair of crucial wickets in the Frogs’ middle order.

Ecklin had earlier upstaged Princetown by 37 runs to earn its spot in the final.
