The awards recognise and reward towns which demonstrate a strong commitment to tourism and to increasing visitation to the destination.

Corangamite Shire mayor Kate Makin was ecstatic with the win for Timboon.

“It’s a very proud moment for the community and the town,” she said.

“This award is for the community, and it really goes to show what a tiny town can be.”

Corangamite Shire chief executive officer David Rae, said the award gives recognition to all who make Timboon a great place to live and visit.

“This award recognises not only the beauty and attractions of Timboon and the hard work of businesses and residents alike, but also the exceptional effort our organisation contributes to making Timboon a great place for visitors,” he said.

“This is a monumental achievement.”

Cr Makin thanked all those involved in putting forth the nomination.

“I want to give a huge thank you to the team, all local talent, who put in an amazing effort in the nomination,” she said.

This is not the first nomination for Timboon, the town was awarded silver in the same category in 2022 and was also a finalist in 2023.

“Third time’s a charm, and we’ve gone for gold this time!” Cr Makin said.

Timboon won in the category ‘Top Tiny Tourism Town’ (population under 1500) against Arthurs Seat, Dookie, Koondrook and Trawool.

Victoria Tourism Industry Council chief executive Felicia Mariani said the awards showcased the diverse range of regional destinations in Victoria and the economic impact tourism brings to these towns.

That golden feeling: After winning silver twice in recent years, Timboon was officially announced as this year’s gold winner in the TAC Victorian Top Tiny Tourism Awards last week.

“As Victorians’ passion for travelling in their own back yard only increases in popularity, it’s wonderful to see these amazing towns and regional centers across our state being recognised as places to get on to the must-visit list,” she said.

“The commitment of destinations across Victoria to creating magical experiences for our visitors is just wonderful to see and we’re so proud to be taking our gold winners forward to the national stage as they vie for the title of “Australia’s Top Tourism Town” in their respective category.”

The three Victorian gold winners will now go on to compete for the coveted title of Australia’s Top Tourism Town in their respective categories.

This will be announced on September 10 at Parliament House, Canberra.
