FORTY-FIVE grassroots sport and active recreation clubs and organisations across the district are set to bolster their coaching skills, administration expertise, or score new sports equipment thanks to a share in more than $900,000 from the Victorian Government.

Labor Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney announced the successful local applicants of the latest round of the Andrews Labor Government’s Sporting Club Grants Program.

The grants provide clubs up to $1000 for new uniforms and equipment, up to $5000 for training coaches, officials and volunteers, and up to $5000 to improve club operational effectiveness.

Local grant recipients who will purchase new uniform and equipment include:

• Lismore Memorial Bowling Club;

• Super Rod Association; and

• Laang Speedway Club.

The Timboon Golf Club will also receive $25000 to develop a club website thanks to a grant.

The Sporting Club Grants Program is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s commitment to make community sport and active recreation more accessible and inclusive, stimulate local economies, build sustainable sport and recreation and volunteer opportunities, and increase local participation.

Ms Tierney said since 2014, the program has injected over $13 million to support clubs and last year provided a valuable funding lifeline to more than 4000 clubs last year to help them through the pandemic.

“We’re proud to provide this boost that opens up a range of opportunities for clubs and their members,” she said.

“The Sporting Club Grants Program is giving grassroots clubs in Western Victoria the support they need to grow their ranks and help more people than ever play the sports they love.”

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence congratulated the grant recipients.

“I look forward to seeing a new generation of local champions get their chance to take their sports to the next level,” she said.
