Timboon Lions Club Notes

LIKE so many service clubs that depend on volunteer membership, we at Timboon Lions have been trying to increase our numbers. To this end we recently held a “Timboon Lions Awareness Day”.

Timboon Lions Club members held an ‘Awareness Day’ to draw attention to the club and try and attract new members.
Timboon Lions Club members held an ‘Awareness Day’ to draw attention to the club and try and attract new members.

This involved setting up an attractive street stand containing information material and members were present to explain to passers-by how Lions clubs help their communities in so many different ways.

Anybody passing who showed an interest was automatically entered into a free raffle.

The stand looked impressive, and those who stopped by and made enquiries received courteous and friendly responses.

Indeed, if you are interested in joining Lions you only have to contact David Gamble on 5501 9738 or Ray Smith on 0429 983 747.

In running the event it was brought home to all of us the tremendous list of large and small ways in which having a Lions Club in Timboon has benefitted the community over many years: school scholarships, skin cancer checks, environmental projects, catering services, hay drives for drought and fire relief, firewood raffles, beach treasure hunts, contributions to a large range of local and overseas fundraisers and so forth. The list goes on and on.

We Lions are determined to make sure that the terrific contributions we have made to our community for so many years now will be duly recognised during the 150 Years Celebration to be held in Timboon next year.
