AT the Timboon Lions Club October dinner meeting held at Timboon Golf Club members were lucky to have Victorian Lions vice-district governor Les Cropley and his partner Deb Stallard as official guests.

Also past district governor Biddy Weel and zone chairperson Nick Weel were able to be with us.

Biddy and Nick are of course well known to us as friends and neighbours from Simpson Lions.

Vice district governor Les is a member of Geelong Corio Lions. He also is certainly no stranger, at least to our longer serving members.

When a manager of the Curdievale Lime Works he was a member of our club. Also he has belonged to Normandy and District (New Zealand) and Freemantle Lions.

Over the years Les has accumulated a long list of achievements and awards yet we would never have known from listening to the humble but practical address he delivered at our dinner how impressive his service has been to the Lions organization.

During the evening Les kindly inducted and welcomed new member from Peterborough, Ian Bryce.

The clubs other recently inducted member, Nellie Richards, is already taking an active part in the club’s activities.

The club has kept our IGA monthly wood raffles going throughout the year.

They are important because not only do they present our profile to the public, but they also help us to support local and wider charities, as well as our annual school scholarship program.

Sylvia Micallef’s Lions cake sales continue to go well and she has recently received a consignment of Lions mints.

We are hoping to run another Beach Treasure Hunt during the 2023 Port Campbell Cray Fish Festival and to hold our annual Trash and Treasure Day early next year instead of in November when it has traditionally taken place.

David Gamble and Ray Smith were recently invited by the Timboon Agricultural Program (TAP) to talk to students at Timboon P-12 School about Timboon Lions and the activities we undertake.

As always we welcome new members into our club. It is often new members who keep our service to the community being even more effective.
