Timely win for Bombers
COBDEN’S senior footballers are hanging on to fifth spot on the Hampden League ladder after last Saturday’s win over Terang Mortlake.

COBDEN’S senior footballers are hanging on to fifth spot on the Hampden League ladder after last Saturday’s win over Terang Mortlake.
The 33-point win over the Bloods saw the Bombers stay in the top five, just half a game clear of neighbours Camperdown in sixth spot.
The opening quarter of last weekend’s game saw both sides struggle to make any real dent on the scoreboard.
The wintry conditions at Terang Recreation Reserve proved challenging for the Bombers, who posted two goals two in the opening term to go into the second just three points ahead of the home side.
The second quarter was a more successful one for the Bombers, who added three majors to the board and stretched their lead to 22-points going into the main break.
A five goal to three second half gave a much-needed victory to the Bombers, 10.5.65 to 4.8.32.
Patrick Smith, Jordan Fowler, Liam Loubey, Grady Rooke, Sam Thow and Jesse Williamson (who kicked four majors for the day) were among the best for the visitors.
Williamson was supported on the scoreboard by Brody Mahoney who kicked two, Ben Berry, Jack Hammond, Liam Loubey and Grady Rooke.
This weekend will see the Bombers at home to take on fourth-placed North Warrnambool in what should be a close, tough game.
In the reserves game last Saturday, the Bombers held on to top spot with a 27-point win over the Bloods, 4.11.35 to 1.2.8.
Lachie Davis, Joe Hutt, Daniel Watson, Jack Darcy, William Benallack and Ryleigh McVilly all played well for the Bombers while McVilly added two goals to his tally and Louis Cahill and Lachie Davis kicked one each.
In the under 18.5s, Cobden sits just one game out of the five following last weekend’s 61-point win over the Bloods.
Final scores were Cobden 8.14.62 to Terang Mortlake 0.1.1.
Luke Smith, Tyler Humphrey, Noah Sinnott, Noah Penry, Jesse Wason and Safari McVilly were named in the best for the Bombers.
Sinnott kicked three for the Bombers while Tyler Humphrey added two. Other goal kickers were Jayden Gass, Blake Mottram and Noah Penry.
It was a mixed bag of results for Cobden’s netballers on the weekend, with wins in three of the eight games played.
