Making a difference: Timboon Opportunity Shop volunteers continue to donate funds to a wide range of local groups and organisations including the Disabled Surfers Great South Coast Victoria.

TOPS co-ordinator Brenda Parfett said the shop recently distributed $50,000 to the community.

Recipients included:

  • Port Campbell Crayfest;

  • Timboon P-12 School;

  • South West Disabled Surfing;

  • Port Campbell Surf Life Saving Club;

  • Curdievale River Trust;

  • Timboon Recreation Reserve;

  • Timboon Action; and

  • Western District Food Share.

The efforts of TOPS volunteers also continues to be appreciated.

Mrs Parfett said the shop recently received a substantial donation which would ensure the community support continued.

“Recently a man walked into the Timboon Op Shop with his cheque book and gave us a donation of $30,000,” she said.

“Volunteers are overwhelmed and appreciate the generous donation and we thank David very much.

“It gives us a real lift and we feel as volunteers we are really valued for the work we do for the Timboon community.”

Mrs Parfett said for sometime the volunteers have been concerned there was no defibrillator machine on the pub side of the town.

She said TOPS had recently purchased an defibrillator.

“This will be erected outside TOPS, for easy access to public,” Mrs Parfett said.

“We also followed up with CPR training for volunteers and interested people, and a demonstration of the defib machine.

“Thanks to Timboon Ambulance personnel who came with equipment for volunteers to learn the technique of CPR.

“We thank Karen for space at the Timboon Hotel for demonstration.”

Mrs Parfett said the benefits of support from TOPS continued to be seen across the community, including at the recent Timboon Action led Anzac Day ceremony with TOPS supplying the food for community members in attendance.

“It was also an opportunity for TOPS volunteers and the community to view the completed work of the WWI honour roll,” she said.

“The finances for this restoration was provided by TOPS and the work of the historical society.

“It is finalised and it is set on a limestone rock from Curdies Lime Works now at Power Creek reserve which is behind out TOPS shop.”

This year TOPS will not be holding its annual plant sale in November due to a lack of space in the shop.
