The Bombers put on a gallant effort in front of a big crowd at Warrnambool’s Reid Oval last Saturday, thrilling spectators in their grand final match against the North Warrnambool Eagles.

The Eagles got off to a flying start, taking a 13-point lead into the second term before the Bombers rallied and got within four points at the main break.

A spectacular third term by the Bombers saw them outscore the Eagles 3.1 to 2.0 to sneak ahead by three points at three-quarter time.

In a low-scoring final term, the Eagles managed to hold on for the win, finishing on 9.5.59 to the Bombers’ 9.3.57.

Best players for Cobden were Tarj Anderson, Matt Clarke, Harrison Herschell, Jack Hutt and Tom Mahony.

Hutt booted three goals for the day while Michael Koroneos added two.

Other contributors to the board were Lachie Davis, Harirson Herschell, Luke Hickey and Louis Robertson with a goal each.

The Bombers had an incredible 2024 season, finishing the home and away rounds in second place, just behind ladder leaders South Warrnambool on percentage.

They met North Warrnambool in the qualifying round late last month where the Eagles took the win by six points.

They went on to defeat Terang Mortlake by 46 points in the semi-final before defeating South Warrnambool by three points in the preliminary final to earn their spot on the big stage.
