Tough day for Demons

IT was a tough day out for the Demons against ladder leaders Ararat last weekend.
The Eagles dominated on their home ground on Saturday, showing why they have become the benchmark in the Mininera League this season.
Demons coach Alec Wiltshire said despite the 68-point loss there was plenty of positives to take from the game in the lead-up to the start of finals next week.
“Looking at the scoreboard, which showed we were kept scoreless in the second and only added three points in the third, we actually won the final quarter and that is a positive in my books,” Wiltshire said.
“The Eagles really dominated for most of the game, particularly in the midfield, and that’s something we will work on moving forward."
“We don’t have a lot of time before the finals but we have plenty to work on in the next couple of weeks. It’s good to get that game out of the system now we’ll just concentrate on moving forward and bring our brand of footy to the forefront.”
Final scores last weekend were Ararat 18.14.122 to Lismore Derrinallum 8.6.54.
Best for the Demons were Rory Nunn, Lachlan Isbister, Lachlan Bryant, Jack Atkins and Daniel Westblade.
Goals went to Westblade (3), Andrew Parkinson (2), Lachlan Isbister, Jack Pitts and Darcy Robinson.
The Demons currently sit third on the ladder and will face 10th placed Great Western at home this weekend.
“While we don’t take any games for granted, we’re pretty confident we can get the win over Great Western this weekend and then concentrate on the qualifying final the following Saturday at Woorndoo,” Wiltshire said.
“It looks like we will most likely come up against Tatyoon and that should be a great game."
“Last time we met they got us by about 17 points on their home ground so we’ll be looking to turn the tables this time around.”
In the reserves game last weekend, Lismore Derrinallum defeated Ararat 6.1.37 to 4.6.30.
Best players for the Demons were Dale Marquand, Callum Kinnear, Ned Uren, Neil Brown and Ryan Jeffery.
Goals went to Matthew Levings (2), Ryan Jeffery and Timothy Turner.
The reserves currently sit second and will most likely face Glenthompson Dunkeld in the qualifying final.
