Tough first round for Knights
CHASING Pomborneit’s 256 runs proved a big task for the Cobden Knights last weekend.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Pomborneit put on a strong show at the crease to notch up 9/256 after 50 overs.
Best of the bowlers for the Knights was Darcy Meade with an impressive 3/31 off 10 overs.
Parker Walsh (2/41 off six) and Jackson Rock (2/36 off 10) were also strong at the crease, with Leonard Walsh adding 1/27 off five.
The Knights struggled to match Pomborneit on the scoreboard, finishing the day at 10/185 in the 45th over.
Best with the bat were opener Matthew Boyle with 54 and captain Johno Benallack, also on 54.
Team-mates Kaplan McCann (18), Edmund Walsh (14), Parker Walsh (12) and Jonty Robertson (11) were others to hit double figures.
Pomborneit’s Lahiru Fernando was the best of the bowlers, finishing the day with figures of 2/19 off 7.4 overs.
He was well supported by captain Matthew Bignell 2/25 off six and Finn Folland 2/38 off seven.
Other wickets fell for Simon Day (1/28), Tharaka Sendanayake 1/39 and Gavin Reynolds 1/1 off one over.
This weekend will see the Knights travel to Camperdown College to face Bookaar.
The division two and three competitions will kick off this weekend, with division two set to take on Boorcan at Cobden Technical School and division three will have a first round bye.
