LAST Saturday’s opening round proved a tough one for the Magpies, going down by just six points to Terang Mortlake.

The weekend’s Super Saturday event, held at Terang Recreation Reserve, proved a close battle between the two with the Magpies going into the main break with a seven-point lead.

The third term saw the Bloods pull away in front of their home crowd, adding four majors to the scoreboard while restricting the visitors to just two points.

This saw the Bloods with a handy 17-point lead going into the final quarter.

The Magpies worked hard in the final term, kicking seven majors while containing the Bloods to just three but the gap was too big – the Bloods taking the round one points by just a goal.

Final scores were Terang Mortlake 10.12.72 to Camperdown 9.12.66.

Best players for Camperdown were Cameron Spence, Brendan Richardson, Toby Kent, Sidney Bradshaw, Brayden Draffin and Riley Arnold.

Goals went to Jason Baird (2), Toby Kent (2), Judah Dundon, Sam Gordon, Joshua Place, Zach Sinnott and Cameron Spence.

Camperdown’s reserves also found the going tough.

Despite goals to Jesse Horan (3) and Billy Conheady (2), the Pies fell 51-points short of the Bloods, with the final scores 5.9.39 to 13.12.90.

Among the best players for Camperdown were Shane Morgan, Nelson Loader, Ethan Coates, Nick Castle and Jesse Horan.

The under 18.5s suffered a similar fate, going down by 144-points to an in-form Bloods unit; 2.4.16 to 24.16.160.

Best players for Camperdown were Eddie Baker, Jonty Lafferty, WilbaCheeseman, Luke Kavenagh, Tarkyn Love and Brock Stephens.

The netball court also proved a tough battle ground for the Magpies, with no wins recorded on Saturday.

Results were as follows:

Open – Camperdown 30 lost to Terang Mortlake 68.

Division one: Camperdown 22 lost to Terang Mortlake 56. Best on court: Holly Swayn and Chloe O’Brien.

Division two: Camperdown 22 defeated by Terang Mortlake 50. Best on court: Georgia Lucas and Jessica Gordon.

Division three: Terang Mortlake 41 defeated Camperdown 27. Best on court: Melanie Simmonds, Hanna Plozza and Melanie Van den Eynde.

17 and under: Camperdown 21 lost to Terang Mortlake 50. Best on court: Elsie Sinnott, Piper Stephens and Grace Roberts.

15 and under: Terang Mortlake 42 defeated Camperdown 19. Best on court: Indiana Cameron, Macy Mahony and Breeana Daffy.

13 and under: Camperdown 19 lost to Terang Mortlake 31. Best: Isabella Wain, Madison Lucas and Sasha Kerr.
