Tough round for Bombers
ROUND three proved a tough one for Cobden’s senior footballers.

ROUND three proved a tough one for Cobden’s senior footballers.
At home to Terang Mortlake, the Bombers got off to a strong start and managed to maintain momentum to go into the main break with a handy 28 point- lead.
A lapse in the third term saw the home side contained to just three points while the visitors piled on four goals, three behinds to be within four points at the end of the quarter.
The Bloods managed to continue their run in the final term, adding four goals and six behinds to finish 13 points ahead on the final siren.
Final scores were Cobden 8.10.58 to Terang Mortlake 9.17.71.
Cobden coach Dan Casey said the loss was a timely reminder for his team to maintain focus for the full four quarters.
“To be honest, the second half took us by surprise abit,” Casey said.
“They (Bloods) are really playing well at the moment and we let them get away in the second half. I think after half-time some of our blokes thought we had it in the bag but the Bloods had other ideas
and to their credit they played a great game and got on top of us.
“Like us, they’re gelling really well and they have some top-end talent. Once they got a run-on in the last quarter we couldn’t stem it and that cost us the game.”
The Bombers were also depleted in the second half with earlier injuries to Charlie Darcy (shoulder) and Jesse Williamson (hamstring).
It’s anticipated both players will be out for this Saturday’s away clash with North Warrnambool.
“North has a smaller ground and they always play well on that. They’ll also be coming off a loss to Camperdown so will be hungry for a win,” Casey said.
“It will be another tough game and we’ll need to bring our best to take the points.”
Best for the Bombers last Saturday were Jordan Fowler, Christian Koroneos, Mark Marriott, Luke Smith and Brody Mahoney.
Goals went to Paul Pekin (3), Jesse Williamson (2), Joshua Hickey, Jack Hutt and Rhys Unwin.
Cobden’s reserves enjoyed a well-earned 37-point victory over the Bloods, 12.9.81 to 7.2.44
Best players for the Bombers were Luke Hickey, Joe Hutt, Harrison Herschell, Tom Mahony and Louis Robertson.
Louis Robertson kicked three majors for the Bombers, along with Ben Berry (2), Harrison Herschell (2), Ashley Rosolin (2), Jia Anderson, Martin Angus and Brody Green.
